Life Swap: Interview with the Kids About Dad Taking Over Homeschooling!

Hey there, fellow homeschooling mamas! As you may know, I recently took the plunge and went back to work. Our homeschooling dynamic recently had a bit of a shakeup – I’ve happily passed the teaching hat over to my awesome husband, and it’s been quite the exciting adventure! I wanted to get the inside scoop from the real MVPs – our kids! Today, I decided to sit down with the little stars of our homeschooling journey and get the inside scoop on how things are going with Dad at the helm. Join me in this fun and heartwarming interview with our little learners to see how they’re adapting to their new teacher, Dad, and how homeschool life has changed.

Hi kiddos! So, how’s it been having Dad as your lead teacher? Any fun stories or moments you’d like to share?

3rd grader: Amazing! School is faster and it’s awesome.

1st Grader: Fantastic! I like that Dad helps me read.

Preschoolers: Really Good.

  • What’s the coolest thing Dad has done during your homeschool day that surprised or impressed you?

3rd Grader: Dad does hangman for spelling.

1st Grader: I like that Dad does hangman for spelling too.

Preschoolers: Reading books.

  • Have you noticed any differences in Dad’s teaching style compared to Mom’s? How do you feel about it?

3rd Grader: Dad writes his 2’s differently and doesn’t make us do songs. I like that we don’t do songs because it makes it faster.

1st Grader: Dad writes his 2’s differently – They look like a backwards 6.

Preschoolers: Mom draws pictures, and dad doesn’t draw as much.

  • What’s your favorite subject to learn with Dad now? Why?

3rd grader: Reading – Because we learn new things together.

1st Grader: Math – Because it’s fun.

Preschoolers: Reading – The books are really cool.

  • Let’s talk schedule! Has Dad changed things up, or is it pretty similar to how Mom ran the show? Any exciting new routines or activities?

3rd and 1st grader: Pretty much similar.

Preschooler: A little different.

  • Do you have any advice for other kids whose dads are taking over homeschooling? What should they expect?

3rd grader: They should like and appreciate their dad doing homeschool.

1st grader: They should be proud of their dads doing school.

Preschoolers: They will have fun reading books.

  • What’s one thing Dad does during homeschool time that makes you laugh or smile?

3rd grader: The way he says good morning.

1st grader: The way he says good morning.

  • Have there been any challenges with Dad taking over? How did you overcome them?

3rd Grader: Math – Dad has me do more of the math by myself – paying more attention to Dad’s lessons before my self-led assignments.

1st Grader: Handwriting – Because I’m left-handed and Dad is right-handed.

Preschoolers: Act Silly.

  • If you had to give Dad a grade as a teacher, what would it be, and why?

1st Grader and 3rd Grader: A- Because I think he is a good teacher.

Preschool: A the best teacher ever.

  • Lastly, any special shoutouts or appreciation you want to give to Dad for his new role? How about some love for your wonderful siblings who make homeschooling a blast?

1st Grader: Thank you!

3rd Grader: Thank you, Dad, for teaching us school every day!

Preschoolers: Thank you!
